KING HEIGHTS CONTEMPORARY

Perched up on a hill, this home has epic views out over Portland. The design goal was to maximize the function of each room – a cook’s kitchen, a mudroom to corral everyday life, and a living room fit for a young family. Although the practicality of the spaces was critical, we wanted to balance it all with a soft touch of the home’s traditional elegance. To visually lighten up the home, walls were taken down, allowing sunlight to be borrowed from adjacent rooms. A limited material palette helps these newly opened rooms float from one to the next, all while the playful details keep everything fresh.
